THE STUDIO

THE STUDIO

A place of space and calm - my chilly outbuilding that is the workshop for flowers downstairs and the studio for painting upstairs, full of space, light and an opportunity to create.

This year I will be growing on our flower farm, SEVERN VALLEY FLOWERS, for a fourth season and have another new and exciting batch of beautiful spring bulbs to look forward to. There’s always something to photograph - branches, flowered foliage, dried flowers - I always have some that keep me going over winter- they’re stunning, cheery and underrated. If dried properly they retain their vivid colour.

We began working on the studio last August, before our brand photoshoot with @ruthyardy for both @sarahpittstudio and my flower business @severnvalleyflowers.

Once we’d emptied the room, removed makeshift partitions, it became obvious how beautiful the space was going to be. Old steel pipework from elsewhere on the farm has been cut to down to manageable lengths to hang backdrops up - they look great in the room and inspire me to use them. Samples are also filling the house as they make wonderful calming artwork.

Now I can go downstairs, arrange a beautiful vase and go back up to photograph it - it’s a joy to operate in two totally connected creative spaces and be able to share it all with you.

Aside of commission work that I’ve begun, I love the unpredictable nature of painting - the process takes itself. I might start a piece, leave it for a while, or return and finish - every piece is good to work with and it’s part of my own style development.

Photographers and stylists I’ve met since I’ve been flower farming have been an inspiration, either on their courses, classes, workshops or in conversation about their work. This next adventure really feels to me that it’s entirely connected to growing and styling flowers.

Always inspired,

Sarah
